Everything about this Asterix spread is so intense, so modern.

I also love how the book (the trivia section here is especially cute) and its matching 2014 movie tell the story of gentrification. A few things are as hilarious as the Roman ladies discovering the sweet little Gallic village. “I bought this sword from a charming artisan”, babbles one to her admiring friends. Her baptising of the blacksmith as ‘artisan’ is not only prophetic, it also forces us to look at the characters as ‘characters’. So intense, so utterly modern.
