Where a near-decade of Champagne Coast wavelengths plops into luxurious cyber bags

Last week marked the 9th anniversary of Blood Orange’s Champagne Coast. Back then, almost a decade ago, the video came as minor shock. I was hooked, on infinite repeat. It was one of those times where sound and vision - and separately, their joined collision course - were potent to the degree of achieving a certain tactility. It echoed some key points in Hype Williams’ reign, but in a different manner, resigned and dejected. Today’s digital commodities, outfits made for avatars or IG posts, possess the same slump. Dispirited, contaminated by their past and their future, captivating. Champagne Coast is still playing in the background.
